  • enquire about, book, or receive our services (including weddings, couples/engagements, family sessions, events, sports, corporate/brand work, and property/real estate content)

  • access or share an online gallery or delivery link we provide.

We aim to handle personal information in a way that is consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (including transparency, data security, access and correction, and responsible overseas disclosures).

Some small businesses may not be directly regulated by all parts of the Privacy Act due to the small business exemption. Regardless, we treat privacy and consent as core values of Sonder Lens and apply APP-aligned practices as a matter of best practice.

We also comply with Australia’s Spam Act 2003 (Cth) requirements for marketing messages (see section 10).

  • payment status and transaction references (note: we generally do not store full card details; these are typically handled by our payment providers)

Third-party and project context

  • names and contact details of other people involved in a booking where relevant (for example, wedding coordinators, venues, or a nominated point of contact), where those details are provided to us.

We collect, hold, use and disclose personal information for purposes connected with providing our services, including to:

  • respond to enquiries and provide quotes

  • consult with you and plan your coverage (including timelines and creative preferences)

  • manage bookings, contracts, deposits and payments

  • deliver photos, films, galleries, and related products (prints/albums where applicable)

  • provide customer support and handle feedback or complaints

  • improve our services, workflow, and website performance

  • market and promote our work where permission has been granted (see section 9).

We do not sell personal information.

Some of the third-party services we use (such as cloud storage, website hosting, email services, gallery delivery, or payment processing) may store or process information on servers located outside Australia.

Where practicable, we will identify the countries in which overseas recipients are likely to be located.

9. Photographs, video and promotional use (consent)

Because we create visual content, this section is important.

9.1 Client work and portfolio use

We may request permission to use a selection of images or video from your session/event for:

  • our portfolio

  • our website

  • our social media channels

  • marketing material or promotions

  • industry submissions (for example, awards) where applicable.

We will only use client images for promotional purposes where:

  • permission has been granted through your service agreement/model release, or

  • you have otherwise provided consent (written or recorded), or

  • another lawful basis applies.

If you do not consent, we will still provide the contracted services; it only affects promotional use.

9.2 Events and third parties in the background

For weddings, events, sports and public/community coverage, other people (for example, guests, attendees, athletes, or members of the public) may appear in images incidentally.

Where appropriate and practicable, we may use measures such as:

  • client/organiser communication about photography being present

  • venue or event signage where requested/appropriate

  • reasonable handling of takedown or removal requests (see section 12).

10. Direct marketing and unsubscribing (Spam Act)

If you subscribe to updates or we contact you about services you’ve enquired about, we may send marketing messages (email/SMS) in line with applicable Australian laws.

Our marketing messages will:

  • be sent only where we have consent (express or inferred) or where otherwise permitted

  • include a clear option to unsubscribe or opt out.

We action unsubscribe requests as soon as practicable, and within required timeframes.
